Boardwalk Creation

Boardwalk Creation

The existing boardwalk was extended to protect the ground vegetation and animals as well as enabling safe access close to the pond to enjoy the local nature reserve.

By extending this boardwalk visitors are now able to view the lake while reducing footfall on the lake margins. Altering this footfall has created less disturbance in the margins and it is hoped that water voles will be encouraged back to this site!

Habitats such as these create extremely important areas of refuge for water voles away from the predation of non-native mink species which now have a high population and hunt along many UK rivers, outcompeting our native water voles.

The boardwalk was constructed through May and June 2022 and is now complete, opened on the 16th July!
