Lifting Bridge to the Leisure Centre

Coir roll installation along the River Slea from the Lifting Bridge to the Nettles.

Exciting habitat restoration works were completed in August 2022 along this section of the River Slea from the Lifting Bridge to the Leisure Centre.

Pre-planted coir rolls and coir matting were introduced to this stretch of the River Slea to introduce habitat, with flourishing marginal and aquatic plant species such as yellow iris, water mint and marsh marigold over the coming months.

Coir is an environmentally friendly material made primarily from coconut fibers. The coir is designed to naturally biodegrade over time, leaving aesthetic established vegetation on the river margins.
